Students gather at the lake's edge to drag the shallow water
with their collecting nets under the watchful eye of their Blinn College
volunteer instructor. |
Macroinvertebrates are the small bugs living in the shallow
water at the lake's edge. Different types of bugs have different
abilities to tolerate polluted water which makes them good
indicators of how polluted the water is. |

Sometimes you get a lot, sometimes not so many. Everyone wants
to see what's new in the net. |
Once the macroinvertebrates are collected, it's the students
job to identify and count them quickly so they can be returned to
the lake in healthy condition. |
